Why Malta?

My name is Cheryl Wasilewski, and I am excited to share with you my love of Malta. For 22 years I worked in the airline industry traveling around the world for fun and with my global sales team on business. I would choose random places to visit for vacation because I wanted to experience as many places as possible, including some less traveled destinations. My friends and family would always ask "What is your favorite place?" That was a tough question for me to answer until recently. Reason being, I love to travel, see new places, and experience different cultures, so I have enjoyed so many destinations for various reasons. But when pushed, I found my answer; Malta. Not only did I find my answer, but I also decided, I want to be sure that I can share with as many people as possible the reasons why I love Malta and encourage as many people as possible to see it for themselves.

Why Malta?

Why Malta you may ask. First, my heritage is Maltese. I'm a first-generation American on my mom's side. My mom was born on the island and more specifically in a shelter. She was born during WWII. Fortunately for me, I still have family that lives on The Rock, a term the locals affectionately use. But I don't just love it because I'm Maltese and have family there, because if you know me well, you know I have family around the world. The second reason I love The Rock is that it has so much to offer of what I enjoy while traveling. Maltese people are incredibly hospitable people that are downright fun to be around. It boasts sunshine most of the year. It's an island, surrounded by the most striking turquoise water. Even though it is small, there is so much culture and history to take in, and yet it is cosmopolitan to allow for fine Mediterranean dining and a vibrant nightlife. I love the outdoors and being active with hiking, biking, boating, kayaking, and sailing. I also like to relax by the water. Oh, one thing I enjoy that you won't see in Malta, snow!

Where is Malta Located?

Malta is approximately 60 miles south of Sicily located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea and comprised of three main islands: Malta, Gozo, and Comino. Together all three islands are approximately 122 square miles. Even though that is smaller than the city of Detroit, there is so much to see and explore. People that have spent two weeks visiting (me included) found it hard to see and do everything they wanted.
